Policies & Procedures

Our Pet Parent Policies

Every client must acknowledge and agree to follow the existing Brooklyn Cattitude & Street Strutters Pet Care policies and payment procedures outlined in this page as part of our sitting contract.

Payment

Payment is due 3 days in advance of your confirmed pet sit. Federal holiday reservations, payment is due 5 days in advance of your confirmed sit. For your payment convenience, you can add your credit card to your portal account and you will be auto billed. We also accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express and cash. Your payment is our confirmation your confirmed sit will take place. If we do not receive your payment, we consider non-payment to indicate a cancellation on the part of the pet owner. If you do not find an invoice in your portal, please notify the office at brooklyncattitude@gmail.com. There is a $25 late fee for invoices not paid after 30 days.

Our Service Rates

While we always try to honor the rates outlined on our Services page; however, due to the nature of our business, our rates may change. We base our rates on several factors and they may need to be adjusted based on the type of service required, the duration of the sit or if your pets needs change. Any change will be discussed in advance of modifying the original pet sitting agreement.

Cancellations

When a sit is confirmed and your plans change, you need to email the office at brookyncattitude@gmail.com. Only office staff can modify a confirmed sit.

During non-holiday periods, cancellations must be received within 72 hours in advance of your confirmed sit. Cancellations received less than 72 hours in advance will be responsible for a $55 cancellation fee. We do not refund your money if you return home early or on the last day of your confirmed sit, earlier then anticipated. Our sitters run on a very tight schedule and could have taken another job if your scheduled sit was not on their calendar.

During Federal holiday periods, changes or cancellations must be received 7 days in advance of your confirmed sit for a full refund and a $75 cancellation fee will apply. Cancellations requested on the first day of the sit and within 72 hours will be charged 75% of the total amount due for the confirmed dates. It's important to understand your sitter has made a commitment in both time and travel to care for your pet. Our employees depend on the anticipated income once a sit is confirmed. We appreciate your understanding.

Federal holidays in 2020 are New Years Day, MLK Day, President's Day, Easter (non federal holiday rate applies,) Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day and holiday period (November 20 - 30,) and Christmas Day and holiday period (December 20 - January 3.) Sitters work from 7am to 9pm daily and from 5am to 11:30pm during our peak holiday season. Federal holiday surcharge rates apply. $7 for the weekend leading into or after the holiday and $12 on the holiday.

There is a $25 travel charge if we come to your home for a meet and greet and you aren't home and forgot to cancel within 3 hours of your appointment.

Summer Care of Pets

Summer brings the challenge of warmer temps that can cause health problems for your pet. If your home is too hot for us then it's too hot for your pet, after all, they wear a fur coat all year long. Air-conditioning should be turned on when temps are at 90 or above. It isn't safe to leave windows open even when the windows have screens. Cats are escape artists and can squeeze through the smallest of openings. Please think about the safety of your pet and realize when the owners away, the kitty will play and sometimes get into things they shouldn't get into. For this reason, we make a visit every 24 hours (once a day) to check on the well being of your pet. We've seen a lot over the years, and everything we do, has the best interest of your pet on our heart.

Veterinarian Policy

Before your sit begins, please notify your vet that Brooklyn Cattitude & Street Strutters Pet Care will be caring for your pet while you are away. In the event of an emergency, and if your pets vet is not available, we will take your pet to the Veterinary and Emergency Referral Group (VERG) in Brooklyn and Animal Medical Center in Manhattan. When your pet arrives at either emergency hospital, you can speak with a receptionist and make payment arrangements. We are not responsible for your pets veterinarian bill, but we will make certain, in the event of illness, your pet arrives safely to an emergency facility. When you become a client, please add your pets veterinarian information to your client portal.

Key Policy

If we agree to become your partner in pet care, please be prepared to provide us with two sets of keys (copies) at the Meet & Greet session. One set stays with the sitter and the other set is stored and locked in our office. We recommend that you allow us to keep your keys on file for future services. If we do not hear from you within a year of your last sit, your keys will be properly destroyed. If requested, keys can be left in your home at the end of the service, if your door is self-locking. Keys can also be left with a concierge and or doorman as long as they are available 24/7 and also on holidays. There is a $15 key pick up and drop off surcharge so the sitter is paid for their time. All personal key tags are removed when your key is entered into our inventory system.

Holiday Policy and Our Special Needs Pets

We make limited twice a day visits during our Federal holiday season. Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day through New Years are always booked at least 3 months in advance by most of our clients. We are loving and loyal to the community we serve, and our clients always receive priority booking, but we do appreciate at least 60 days notice in advance of any Federal holiday.

*Note, pets with special needs and who require twice a day visits, are evaluated on a case by case basis and their illnesses should be discussed with the owner of Brooklyn Cattitude & Street Strutters Pet Care by September of each year.

Email Communication and Working With Our Team of Sitters

Our sitters check in when they arrive to your home and you are notified by email. When the sitter is finished caring for your pet, you will receive a check out notification via email. You can click the link and see a picture of your pet and an update. We are happy to provide an email update with a picture and note about the sit so you know your favorite furry friend is being cared for.

If you are traveling to an area where service isn't available, please inform the sitter and office staff. If for any reason you are not able to contact your sitter, please email the office at brooklyncattitude@gmail.com.

We have a back up for all team members – both cat sitters and dog walkers – and there is always a "buddy sitter" available in the event your sitter becomes ill or has a family emergency. We also recognize that sitters and pets bond, so every attempt is made for you the client to work with the same sitter on an ongoing basis.

Please note, our sitters also take vacations with their families and request time off for other reasons. If your favorite sitter isn't available, one of our managers will step in and cover the sit. Each team member is trained in all aspects of pet care and will deliver the same quality service you are accustomed to receiving from Brooklyn Cattitude & Street Strutters Dog Walking.

Tipping Sitters

Our staff appreciate receiving a tip for a job well done. You can add a tip onto your invoice or leave a tip in your home with the sitters name on it. Sitters are given 100% of the tips they earn.

Weekend Request

Any request for weekend service Friday through Sunday that is made after Wednesday at 4pm, is charged our Federal Holiday rate. We have a limited number of staff working on weekends. If you schedule a sit after 3 pm on any Friday, your sit will not be accepted. Our business office closes at 3pm on Friday and we do not check sitting request over the weekend. Please do not expect a sitter to show up to your home to care for your pet.

Litter Boxes

Please place your cats litter box in an area where the cat is not restricted to access. The box should be outside of a closet and if in a room that has a door, a doorstopper must be used to keep the door from closing. It is our policy to not flush litter even if the litter states it is flushable. Dirty litter and contents are removed from your home in biodegradable bags at our expense. Please be considerate of your sitter and let us start our job finding a clean litter box filled with fresh litter. We will adore you forever. Daily litter scooping is part of the service you pay for, a complete litter box change is not and will be billed at $25 per each time we have to clean and change the litter in the box. We also close the toilet seat so kitty will not look for alternate water sources.

Business Hours

The business office is open Monday through Thursday, 10am – 6pm. Friday, 10am - 3pm, the business office is closed on Saturday and Sunday. Emails and phone calls received on Saturday and Sunday will be returned on the next business day.
